Aperitif Restaurant of Viceroy Ubud succesfully held a grand charity dinner event, gathering some of Bali’s most renowned chef to raise fund for Bali Children Project.

On Saturday, 25th January 2020, ten of Bali’s best chefs from nine incredible restaurants joined forces to create a delectable eight-course meal at Aperitif Restaurant’s eclectic venue. Some of Bali’s finest restaurants were represented on the event, with StarterLab Bali, Cascades, Mauri, Apéritif, Mozaic, Merah Putih, Sangsaka, Kaum and Mason each delivering their respective course.

The chefs all collaborated not only to show the power of teamwork, but also how incredible things can be achieved when people work together. “I am grateful, not for the first time and not for the last time. We’re stronger together.” said Aperitif’s head chef, Nic Vanderbeeken.

A sell out event, guests were not just there to enjoy the food and company. The whole event was in aid of Bali Children’s Project, a local charity that focuses on supporting children to access education in Bali through a wide variety of programs. The fundraiser was the brainchild of the team at the Viceroy hotel in Ubud, where Apéritif is located. Viceroy has hosted several chef collaboration charity events over the years, and in 2016 in support of Bali Children’s Project.

The charity’s work ranges from school sponsorships for students who are at risk of dropping out to HIV and AIDS Awareness work in schools. Special guests included two school students who had been sponsored, thanks to a previous fundraising lunch in 2016 hosted by Cascades Restaurant at Viceroy Bali. The two students, now approaching the end of their school careers are aptly on their way to becoming chefs themselves.

The event did not disappoint, as after totaling ticket pricing, auction sales and pledges, it managed to raise an incredible 227,500,000 IDR to aid Bali Children Project in their incredible cause. “It’s overwhelming and heartening to see so many people come together to support the work of Bali Children’s Project.” said Bali Children’s Project Founder, Linda Venter. “We are proud to announce that thanks to the funds raised, we will be able to double the impact of our Abuse Awareness program.”

One of many programs, Bali Children’s Project’s Abuse Awareness program sends a team to schools to deliver workshops that help students to understand abuse. It makes use of games, songs, acting and more to help elementary aged students learn a serious message. “We’ll be using the funding to do more workshops, helping us to reach 8,000 more students with this program.” explains Ms. Venter. “I can’t thank everybody enough for their kindness.”
