Like its Sanskrit namesake, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve offers hotel guests a “temple” of their own, a sanctuary for inner exploration and tranquility.

Although most of the big names and veteran players in valley side resorts all prefer the secluded vicinities a few miles further from the downtown Ubud such as Sayan or Tegalalang, somehow Mandapa took the opposite current. They’re lucky enough to find a spot close enough that you could take a walk –not a shuttle or bike trip– to downtown Ubud.

Straight from the moment you step into this property, guests are treated to their gorgeously sophisticated architecture, without leaving the tropical design identity. Those dark wooden walls, the wicker ceilings, the copper faucets, the stone ornaments –all combined with a state-of-the-art, retreat-luxurious nonchalance.

With 35 suite rooms and 25 villas, it’s still quite inconceivable to see how all of them could fit into the area. But they do! And so beautifully so. The suites are packed in the towering buildings. They cover a staggering area between 100 to 145 square metres, covered entirely in the luxurious combination of traditional and modern décor, overseeing that lovely valley from up high. The villas are even more posh –starting from the forest view, the paddy field view, and the best of all, the riverfront view.

Mandapa also offers a variety of dining options. One thing you definitely have to try is dinner in one of the cocoon pods at Kubu restaurant, enjoying an exquisite degustation menu while perched at the riverbend. And what would a resort in a secluded spot be without a spa to further indulge you in the most serene experience? With massages right at the riverbank, and a vitality pool to cleanse your body and mind off the metropolitan hustles and bustles. While you’re embracing the resort’s blissful indulgence, take a moment to stroll along the small patch of paddy field and fully admire that glorious construction of a castle they planted on the valley’s wall.

It takes a whole new level of admiration to enjoy Mandapa. Fresh air to breathe, quiet and rivery surroundings, luscious gastronomy experience, and what a grand design to see in between the natural landscape. It’s a pleaser for all senses, and definitely not a place to easily forget.
