Compared to where I live now, Bali certainly has more dogs. And by that, the culture of how Balinese and the island’s residents treat our furry friends are different as well.

The presence of dogs in Bali is definitely a stark contrast compared to let’s say here in Jakarta. Most households in Bali have at least one pet dog, and the strays are countless. You’ll meet dogs on the street, at the beach, in the mountains, in the villages. Bali even actually has its own breed of dogs, the majestic Kintamanis – seriously you should check out these fluffy mounties.

Now with accepting dogs as part of its culture, it’s not uncommon that many public places in the island are pet friendly. Restaurants, cafes, even gyms and hotels welcome dogs as one of their own guests. But I’d like to list a few places that are welcoming dogs, because they are a place for dogs. Wait, that’s confusing. I mean, their business actually caters to dogs, and dogs are their actual target market.

The Dog Club, Umalas – This 700sqm play park is large enough to host a party – which is something they regularly hold at the weekends. It also has a boarding kennel and a grooming service. But the best part? The bone shaped swimming pool!

Dog Grocer Cafe, Pecatu – It’s a little far, but I bet your pup would always love a regular visit to this place. The grocer part means they have supplies for all of your dog’s needs, and the cafe part serves the best treats and dine-in dishes for them.

Dog Barkery, Seminyak – Is there a better name? Not only that this small shop can help you restock, but they’re always up for a party. And by party, I mean making cake, snacks and treats for your dog’s big day – as well as their guests.

What’s your dog’s favorite place to hangout? Let us know!
