Situated right in the heart of Berawa street Canggu, Synkonah is a contemporary chill and dine venue serving Mediterranean-inspired goodness and arrays of quality drinks; mainly gin, tonic and everything in-between.
The moniker itself should be a giveaway for gin enthusiasts. Derived from the literal pronunciation of ‘cinchona’ (from the renowned cinchona bark), the 2-months-old establishment hits the ground running with their warm service, ambience and tantalizing menus. Boasting an artful open-air space, completed with Picasso-styled mural on its wall, the 70-seated restaurant/bar is an idyllic spot to hang out and enjoy the intimate tropical sunset moment.
The menus of Synkonah are fantastically appetizing; mainly consists of Mediterranean- inspired comfort food with generous portion and aesthetic presentation. Try their Tuna Carpaccio for a grand Entrée; a portion of melt-in-your-mouth thin-sliced tuna served along a combination of fresh, esculent ingredients; black pepper, olive and shallot. Then, for the main menu, Braised Lamb Shoulder is a must-try; chunks of tender lambs with sweet-meets-sour aftertaste that really defines what a ‘good comfort meal’ should be. Enjoy this one with a portion of soft and creamy Potato Puree.
To wrap it all up, you must order one of two Synkonah superb desserts. Their Vanilla Bean Cream Brulee is perfection in form of mouth- watering sweet, crunchy, creamy caramel delicacy that will leave you longing for more; or you can opt for the Chocolate, Blackberry Semifreddo; a unique frozen choco bar glazed with blackberry sauce for a fine blend of milky, sweet and sour flavor.
As expected from a quality gin & tonic bar, Synkonah has extensive lists of distilled spirit’s mix; from Traditional London Dry, New Age, Citrus to Savory and Spicy; perfectly complimenting Bali’s tropical atmosphere. One of their best, ‘Tanqueray, England’ is a refreshing combination of Tarragon + Lemon for a soothing blend of cold, distilled mild sour and sweet thirst quencher. Or try their Lemongrass & Ginger Mojito for a more classic tropical quaff with a mix of fresh lime, ginger, rum and sizzling soda.
Whether for drinking or dining occasion, Synkonah is an excellent place to cherish the quaint vibes of Canggu. Come at around 6pm for a sundowner feast, and don’t be surprised to find yourself stay until late at night. Pour in another pint, as it will be a lovely night to remember.
