After months of showcasing eclectic Indonesian cuisine to different pop-ups in and out Bali during their hiatus, Restaurant Nusantara has finally announced the re-opening of their dining venue back in December 2020. Now, they are more than ready to deliver tantalizing indigenous dishes to cater their beloved guest.

Opened in Ubud, Bali in 2017 by the same group that brought the award-winning Locavore Restaurant, Nusantara offers a very high quality ethno-culinary perspective of it’s national cuisine. Like its name, which means archipelago in Indonesian, chef Putu, chef Rey along with their team of sous chefs from West Java, Medan and North Sumatra bring lesser-known recipes, ancient wood-fired cooking techniques and the best of Indonesian ingredients.

The spread of COVID-19 pandemic forced Nusantara for a halt almost throughout of year 2020. They continued to showcase their creation in Bali and beyond through various pop-ups in several regions.  But now they’re back, stronger than ever to deliver exquisite take of Indonesian underrated dishes to every guest palate.

Commandeered by talented Chef Putu Dodik Sumarjana and his merry team, Nusantara will introduce both old favorites and new culinary creations for the guest. Check out their new Keong Sawah from Payangan, Bali or Naniura from Toba, North Sumatera. The restaurant have also developed a new set menu inspired by the ethno-culinary history of Indonesia, “Taste the Forgotten Craft”. All these dishes are served family style, just like how it should be.

Nusantara also recently introduced their first mixtape to provide their guest with good, easy-listening bunch of tunes through Nusantara Mix Vol 01: Uda Sjam. This unique mix is prepared by Samson Pho, a full-time Jakarta-based record dealer and part time music selector at his rare vinyl store Laid Back Blues Record Store,

Indonesian cuisine is very diverse and broad in scope that it’s impossible to easily categorise and define. From the Easternmost Sabang to Westernmost Merauke region, there are always tempting tastes from around the archipelago to experience, and Nusantara brought that right to the table with style. Come to their conveninent venue with signature outdoor wood-fire kitchen at center Ubud.
