You probably ask, what does floating has to do with my wellness? The answer is Floating helps to stimulate the body’s own natural power of healing and regeneration. Flotation therapy is a rapidly growing wellness treatment. This therapy has been utilized by people who are highly stressed, have chronic pain, adrenal fatigue, sleep disorders, asthma and are in rehabilitation as a shortcut to improving health and well-being.

Floating itself was first invented by a neuroscientist, John C Lily about 50 years ago where he conducted experiments which were far ahead of his time. Over the past ten years, due to the increasing change in the environment and pressure from society, people are dealing with higher stress levels and anxiety. Which is why floating is getting more recognition globally as one of the therapies to decrease stress and anxiety. Top athletes such as Stephen Curry and Tom Brady put this therapy as part of their regime.

There is no side effect to this therapy. For the first time floaters, they can emerge from the tank feeling nauseous. But this is good because that means the built-up stress is leaving the body.

We know this is a pretty new treatment for wellness on the island, and that you may be wondering what you should do if you want to try your first float. We encourage that you come with an open mind. As with all things in life, practice makes perfect. The more you float, the faster you will ease into a calm state of mind. Each person’s floating experience is unique because we are all built differently. Your body will absorb a lot of magnesium from the Epsom salt, but don’t worry, you won’t overdose. In fact, your body will stop absorbing magnesium once you have reached the optimum levels.

Just remember not to drink coffee for four hours beforehand (it can make your system jittery). Also, don’t shave or wax since the saltwater can irritate your skin. Eating a light meal for about an hour to 90 minutes ahead of time stops your stomach from sounding like an angry monster while you float.

If you want to try a luxurious escape from the constant stress of life’s daily pressures, go to Terapung Float, opens from Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM at Jl. Drupadi 99A Seminyak. Or call +62 811 8180 999 and e-email [email protected]
